Lynx Halted By Lions In DH

Boston, MA - Lesley University softball saw six game winning streak end as they were swept by Emerson College on Thursday afternoon at Roach Field on the campus of Emerson College. The Lions jumped on the Lynx early winning 11-2 in five innings in game one, Emerson then were able to prevail over Lesley after late runs in game two, 5-2. The Lynx fall to 7-5 record, Emerson advance to 9-5 overall.

GAME 1-LESLEY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Lesley started quickly, opening the scoring in the first two batters. First, Mahlia Medina (Winchester, CA.) reached on an error then stole second base to get in scoring position. That setup Jordan Day (Seminole, FL) to put a ball down the third base line which allowed Medina to score, 1-0 Lynx.
  • Emerson would respond with 11 runs over the next two innings to hold a commanding lead.
  • The Lynx pulled a run back in the third courtesy of an Ashleigh Acker (Apopka, FL.) double which brought Day to the plate.
  • Lesley were held through the remainder of the game as the contest ended after five innings.
  • The Lynx was held to just three hits on the afternoon [Day, Acker, and Kristen DiCicco (Wantagh, N.Y)]

GAME 2-LESLEY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Both offenses were held by excellent pitching until the Lynx broke through in the top of the fifth. Antonia Kieran (Wilmington, MA) drove in Day from third after reaching on an error from the infield, to give Lesley a 1-0 lead.
  • Emerson then broke through in the sixth inning, scoring five runs to take a late lead.
  • Lesley brought home one run in the top of the seventh after Juliana Cecere (Revere, MA) reached on a HBP. Lesley could not make the most of two bases loaded situations in the seventh as Emerson held on for the win.
  • Jen Thorburn (Groton, MA) had another solid performance, throwing 5 2/3 innings allowing five runs, notched a career-high eight punch outs.
  • Offensively, Day paced the Lynx with two hits, while DiCicco and Kieran had one hit each.

UP NEXT 

Lesley (7-5) open New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) campaign on Saturday, March 23, as they travel to reigning NECC champions Bay Path College for a doubleheader. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 1:00PM and Game 2 is schedule to begin at 3:00PM.
