Men's and Women's Track Kick Off 2017 Slate at Pioneer Invite

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Lesley University Men's and Women's Track team opened up their 2017 slate this afternoon at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Smith College. Lesley sophomore Mike Fleming (Southwick, Mass.) paced the Lynx on the afternoon, posting a time of 7.70 in the 60-meter dash and 25.42 in the 200-meter.

Fleming also broke his program record in the long jump, leaping 19-feet and finishing in seventh place in the process.

Freshmen Matt Arsenault (York, Maine) and Ethan Merians (Larchmont, N.Y.) joined Fleming in the 60-meter and posted times of 8.02 and 8.88, respectively. Merians also raced alongside Fleming in the 200-meter, crossing at 31.06.

Arsenault also broke a school record in the triple-jump, leaping 12.05m in his first collegiate indoor event. 

On the women's side, it was senior Sydney Altschuler (Durham, Conn.) who led the charge in the 1-mile run as she came in at a swift 6:35.28. Freshman Kayla Ranere (Danbury, Conn.) and sophomore Anne Cooper (Harvard, Mass.) followed closely behind with respective times of 7:12.49 and 7:18.80.

Junior Alex Dimauro (Woburn, Mass.) and sophomore Nicole Footer (Lewiston, Maine) provided strong performances in the 3000-meter run. Dimauro crossed at 12:42.90 while Footer followed at 13:25.03.

The day would not end without another record being broken as the team of Altschuler, Ranere, Footer, and Dimauro came in first in the Distance Medley while breaking the program record with a time of 15:07.41. 

Lesley will be back in action next Saturday and travel to nearby Medford, Massachusetts to compete in the annual Tufts Stampede.
