GAME OVERVIEW:
CAMBRIDGE, MA. -- The Lesley men's soccer team won their third straight game and remained undefeated in conference play after a thrilling 2-1 win over the New England College Pilgrims. The Lynx advance to 7-7 on the season and 4-0 in NECC play, while the Pilgrims fall to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The defenses held strong in an incredibly even game. The rain held off for the first half and both teams played well in the dry weather.
- The Pilgrims found more opportunities in the first half, taking seven shots in the first half compared to Lesley's four. Patrick Corcoran kept New England off the board, saving the two shots on net in the first half.
- Serious wind and rain kicked in at halftime, but the Lynx defenders were undeterred. They even took some chances of their own, with defenders Tiago Pacheco and Max Fereira taking the first two shots of the half.
- Both teams battled, but the rain messed with their chances, as there were no shots on net for the first 29 minutes of the second half.
- The Pilgrims broke the scoreless tie in the 75th minute when Wiskins Flavil muscled one by Corcoran. It was Flavil's fourth goal of the season.
- About thirty seconds later, the Lynx found their chance to tie after a yellow card on New England's Ryder Valinski. After the free kick, Gerry Chica punched one into the back of the net to tie the score at 1. It was Chica's second goal of the season.
- It looked like the match would go into overtime, but Jack Wadleigh had other ideas. He scored to give the Lynx a 2-1 lead in the 89th minute after a wet ball deflected off a Pilgrim defender right to his feet.
- Wadleigh's goal was his tenth of the season and extended his scoring streak to six straight games. It was the ninth goal in those six games for Wadleigh and his ten total on the season are good for the second most in the NECC, while his 21 points are also good for second. Wadleigh's clutch goal was also his third game-winner of the season and got the Lynx out of the rain in regulation time.
