Big First Half Carries Babson Past Men's Soccer

BABSON PARK, Mass.— A big first half carried host Babson College over Lesley University this afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Hartwell-Rogers Field. The Beavers scored a trio of goals in the first 45-minutes and added another insurance tally in the second to blank the Lynx 4-0. With the win, Babson is now 3-4-1 on the year, while Lesley slips to 1-6-0.

Babson sophomore Carlo Araujo (Mexico City, Mexico) potted a pair of markers in the first half to power the offense for the hosts.

Arujo opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he collected the rebound of a shot by junior Pat O'Rourke (Hingham, Mass.) and calmly knocked his finish off the inside of the right post from the center of the box for a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Ian Fromhein (Osterville, Mass.) doubled Babson's lead in the 27th minute when he headed home a corner kick from junior HS Jung (Seoul, Republic of Korea) for his first goal of the season.

Araujo struck again just over three minutes later when he converted on a breakaway. Following a long goal kick by James Takami (Kenmore, Wash.), freshman Chris Czarnecki (Baltimore, Md.) sent Araujo into space with a header over the defense, and he slipped his shot past Lynx junior goalkeeper James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) and inside the left post for a 3-0 advantage.

The Beavers capped the scoring in the 86th minute on Leonard's one-touch finish from inside the six-yard box off a service from McWeeney.

Lesley's best scoring opportunity came in the 81st minute when Beavers' first-year goalkeeper Austin Mankouski (Suffield, Conn.) dove to his right to deny junior Nuno Pereira's (Sao Filipe, Cape Verde) free kick from the top of the box.

Webb turned away seven shots, while first-year David Crutchfield (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished with one save for the Lynx.

Lesley will be back on their home field and return to New England Collegiate Conference play when they host Regis College at 12:00p on Sunday. Babson will visit MIT at 1:00p on Saturday.
